Lawyers are generally highly regarded
They come to our aid when trouble gets started
They’ve undergone years of legal education
Which takes a lot of drive, discipline, and patience
But that respect doesn’t go beyond the community
Cops in Brooklyn, New York showed that to you, me,
And anybody else that was on the scene
Let me tell how it happened, then you’ll know what I mean
A lawyer and his wife, who is also a lawyer
Was driving through Brooklyn when they suddenly saw a
Young Black kid being chased by the cops
He was tackled to the ground in McDonald’s parking lot
Once they got him down, one officer put him in cuffs
The Sergeant then decided to start roughing him up
He kicked him in his head and ribs, and started stomping his neck
The 2 attorneys were like “What the heck?”
They stopped the car and let the cops know who they were
Told the cops that they were taking this too far
Serge said “I don’t give a f**k who you are…”
As he pointed he said “..now get the f**k back in your car!”
They wisely followed suit and got back in the car
The male lawyer started writing down the things he saw
He wrote the license plates numbers, then what do you know
He heard “Get out of the car!” then got punched through the window
Dragged from the ride, ripping up his clothes
Punched in the mouth, in the jaw, in the nose
Demanding an explanation his wife jumped out the ride
Serge punched her in the face without breaking a stride
Then they both got arrested for resisting arrest,
Obstruction, and disorderly conduct – what a mess
Within hours hundreds of Brooklynites converged on the precinct
They happened to be Black lawyers, and you know how we think
They demanded the release of the lawyers in holding
Get enough of us together and that’s a means of cajoling
In an interview the wife spoke for many that night
When she said “We are professionals and they did this in daylight
But what really concerns me, about us getting beat
Is what must happen when they see kids at night on the street”
Needless to say they’re now calling for removal of Serge
And the Police Commissioner since he’s the man in charge
Otherwise their uniforms are nothing but white sheets
When a white cop can beat Black lawyers in the streets
It’s time to stop blaming hip hop for our problems
We need to stop worshiping Halloween & goblins
We need to stop relying on war for peace
When a white cop can beat Black lawyers in the streets
The year's 2007, the date is July 4th
The place is Vanderbilt Avenue in Brooklyn, New York
Home of many artists that drop the hot beats
Is now the home of Black lawyers being beaten in the streets
