The Nomadic Scroll
Volume XVI~ January 1, 2009
Greetings From the Administration
Peace Nomadic Poets,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 2009 is now upon us! Out with old in with the new, unless the old is working for you. Seems like 2008 flew by at times and stood still at others. But either way it's over and we are 19 days away from The Obama Years! We hope all can make "Change" We can be proud of! We would like to Congratulate Lotus Lion for publishing her first book, and we encourage all to support her. Also Congratulations to Spoken Grenada for earning Poet of the Month. The Oasis Journals are now open for you all to share your thoughts or read through the lives of the Poetic Fam. Again Happy New Year! A fresh start to make it happen! Good Luck Fam!
Peace and Blessings,
Hidden Poetress & WlkWlk3 (Administrators)

Congratulations Spoken Grenada! Keep blessing us with your talents!
Below is Spoken Grenada's favorite original poem. Enjoy Fam...
Cursive Curse Words
There was a writer
Who wrote with delicate passion
But would always punctuate her pieces
With "mothaf*^ker."
She'd say;
Hands make music
On the windows of my pores:
A treble starting on the small of his back
Would travel through his phalanges
Then falsetto on my hips
Mothaf*^ker.
I loved her for that.
But when she stopped writing
Due to some cultural cliché
That the typical artist experiences,
I wrote in anger:
There is no more
Chutzpah in her crutch
So the demons refused to seduce her
Mothaf*^ker!
No sooner than later, writing and I developed
A dysfunctional love-hate relationship
In that the things I hated
Were the very things that attracted me
To the process.
That writer I once knew
Never became famous
At least not until she died
Did they hail her cursive curse words
Scribbled on handmade journals
Into hardcover best sellers.
At her funeral,
Where I discovered
The clichéd thing that ceased her writing
Was the desire for fame and recognition
And the curse words
Were her actual screams on paper,
Marked the last day I used mothaf*^ker
As an exclamation mark.
From then on
Punctuations were punctuations
And the first thing I wrote was:
"Failure.
Whatever parameters they've used
To measure it,
Becomes a consuming concept,
A parasitic goal that seeks to kill its host.”
MaryJaneBurns's Scribe of the Month:
Later

Scribed by: SpitFire
It isn't the phone I cradle but your voice
We feel because our hearts have left us no choice
We feel because our hearts have left us no choice
And while we are speaking on the phone
I pull the cover up over my head as to bring you closer
and for a moment you are beside me
laying your heart on my bed sheets.
It hurts me to see you falling, knowing I can not catch you.
We are reaping the emotional consequences
of a love we sowed that was not meant to be.
We are leaves falling softly from the tree of grace.
You speak of me as though you have known me for a
thousand lifetimes and have tasted me with a
foreign tongue that proclaimed your love for me in
its language.
Perhaps you were a Jewish man relentlessly pursuing a
Gentile woman across the Diaspora.
Or we could have been so simple yet so substantial;
you being the blue brushstroke and I being the flip of
Van Gough's wrist.
Maybe not our minds but perhaps our souls can recall a time
when we named one another while standing
before God right before
taking human form for the first time.
And now under the covers while I am pulling your voice
inside of me, it hurts to see you falling
knowing I can not catch you
because later is going to force goodbyes
out of our mouths and into the space that will grow
becoming the distance between us.
But.....
Later will beget an even later
that will beget many others....
and we may see us again.
Recognition in a reflection.
Reincarnated.

Straight From the Headlines!!!
When a talk show lines up a house band, it usually isn't a household name. But that won't be the case when Jimmy Fallon launches his late night show. The Roots will be his house band. The group has been named one of the 20 greatest live acts in the world by Rolling Stone. And instead of a step backward, group founder ?uestlove calls it "an honor" to be on the show. He says they group is "really excited" to be on the new "Late Night," which is currently hosted by Conan O'Brien.
What are your thoughts? Speak on it in Straight From The Headlines located in the Oasis Lounge.
