The Nomadic Scroll
Volume XIV~ November 1, 2008
Greetings From the Administration
Peace Nomadic Poets,
Election Day is right around the corner! It has definitely been exciting to be a part of the most historic election in our lifetime; now we all have to get out and vote on November 4th!
No matter your political affiliation, (OBAMA '08 BABY!), it is very, very important that you exercise your right to vote. Blood has been shed to ensure that each and every voice be heard, let that not be in vain.
This election cycle has exposed the underbelly of American society. Classism, sexism and racism have come to the forefront, and it just shows how far America has to go before we are truly unified.
On November 4th, we all have the ability to shape the course of history. Oasis Stand Up!!!
As always the caliber of talent found in the 'O' is second to none! November's Poet of the Month, Journey, is a prime example of when intelligence meets artistry. Her words captivate the spirit, and make us proud to be Poets! Shine on, sis!
Fam, thank you all for sharing your talents with us. Each of you represent a facet of the Oasis, and it wouldn't be the same without you. We look forward to continuing to grow and create together.
Peace and Blessings,
Hidden Poetress & WlkWlk3 (Administrators)

Word Birth
ideas incubate
moments days weeks
taking shape tumbling out
on crumpled napkins
fluorescent post-its
and semi-sweaty palms
waters break
in inopportune places
like showers
and meetings
and depths of REM sleep
partners and coaches
can only observe
voices fading
sometimes bearing brunt
of the hurt
and i
labor
to retrieve
elusive epiphanies
nourishing and messy as afterbirth
upon arrival
welcomed and carefully weighed
cradled and nursed
cleaned up and kissed
so that even the ugliest phrase
in a mother's eyes
is most exquisite on earth
after all that she went through
to give the word birth

Tangible, you make me believe.
Chemical, it leaves no room for doubt.
Broken fragments of a sentence, left undefined.
Could I build a spotlight and sort the thoughts in my mind?
A drop in the water, I'm caught in a ripple effect.
This iris, constricting, it shows me sunshine, warm grass, fluttered flesh.
I wish I could wrap my fingers around it, an image for my shaking hands.
Prespective, an evolution, do I expect the unexpected?
Trickle, of spontanity, a hanging moment in time, pause, fast forward, rewind.
I need a heartbeat to remind me I am still breathing.
It's like a distant summer, the day just being born.
Play, it keeps moving, storybook scences, outside of everything I ever let myself know.
Tornandos touch down and rearrange everything in their path.
A force of nature, how can something wrong, feels so right.
Sweet release, i'll pretend to be busy, when really I'm watching you pass me by.
Take another look at your world, in silence something is happening.
Random sequences in the void, I will bare it all.

Straight From the Headlines!!!
CNN is teaming with comedian D.L. Hughley to produce a weekly news-based comedy show in an attempt to capture a younger demographic.
According to Variety, Hughley’s show will lampoon current events as well as the reporters covering and breaking various newsworthy stories from the pop, sports, politics and entertainment worlds.
"D.L. is a very thoughtful, well-informed guy with unpredictable views, and I’ve always admired his comedy," said CNN U.S. President Jon Klein. "The basic premise of the show is, what if a guy like him was let loose in the CNN building for a weekend after the lights went off?"
CNN has refused to divulge the name of the show, which is set to begin airing on Saturday’s at 10:00 PM.
Hughley revealed that his show would be much different than Comedy Central’s popular shows "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report."
"I’m a big fan of both of those shows," Hughley said. "But I’ve got a different skill set. I’m not going to parody a news show or a news anchor. My show will reflect my views on things just as their shows reflect their views…There have been six movies with a black man as the president, and in all those movies, the world was coming to an end. If this election isn’t art imitating life, I don’t know what is."
